Wattage does NOT dictate volume. a 50 watt buddha head with 2 12s can compete with a recto as far as volume goes and kick it's ass as far as tone goes. What you want is a tube AMP with an option for low impedance (4 or two ohms incase you want to hook more than 2 cabs up to it) and a high SPL of AT LEAST 110. SPL dictates volume, wattage does not. Also you want to check out wich amps you can turn up to high volumes (at least 75%)wichout having to deal with to much feedback. With the right guitar, cab, and settings, I've seen rectos turned up to 100% without any feedback. Check out the VHT pitbull, Tripple recto, stiletto, cobra, basically anything by diezel, maybe even the blue voodoo. Given your price range, your probably limited to Peavy, really low end marshalls, and b52. I would normally avoid buying a peavy amp, but in your price range, you can pickup the XXL for under 600$ I would personally check out the Crate GT3500H head. It's an all tube 350W head for about 550-600$ Remember kids, higher wattage means higher electric bill, not higher volume.
