"The Bay State's new universal healthcare plan marks an improvement -- but a single payer system would have been even better."

universal healthcare would not work on a population scale of the United States unless you want to wait months and months for a surgery.

You have to wait months and months for surgery now in RI...just ask my downstairs neighbor, he'll probably drop dead before they get to operate. I think forcing people to buy healthcare is wrong, but I am curious to see if this plan in MA works out though.

I think forcing people to buy health care is wrong too, but you need to realize that if he didnt buy health care and it was just offered to him he would also drop dead.

I imagine that they will be forcing you to buy what you can afford. Sorry, but I don't feel bad for joe 50k a year that would rather leech the free care pool than buy his family health insurance.

I'm not looking forward to having one more expense when my husband switches to a non-insurance job, but I also don't look forward to paying car insurance or rent either. Suck it up.

It's really not that expensive. You hit the ER ONCE and it costs about a year or more's insurance payments.

I know this because I avoid doctors until I need to be carried to one.

I never got health insurance

like car insurance is so if you wreck the car or wreck someone else's car it gets paid for

but why is it we need "insurance" in order to get meds or a doctor visit for under $50? Just seems like a discount plan or something. What the hell is it "insuring" against?

"got" meaning "understood"

well, what if you suddenly need a heart transplant. I believe that's about a $600k operation. Without insurance, see you on the other side my friend.

Exactly. You pay into a system that will bail you out, albeit with a bunch of cumbersome phonecalls and other trials of patience, when the shit hits the fan.

And if you NEVER get hurt or sick, fuck you. You deserve to pay your entire life for being such an unfairly fortunate fuck.

Come on Craig...you should appreciate artificial life supports more considering your medical past. You know how important that shit is.

p.s. how've you been? Feel like it's been awhile.

The lowest price I've been quoted for health insurance is $1,700/year...that's a retarded amount of money for healthcare.

Everyone who can't afford it waits, but if you've got a serious problem and you wait, it becomes more expensive to treat than if they'd caught it earlier, plus your chances of survival go down.
