this was a letter from clear chanel, the company that owners more radio station in the US than anyone else.
Last time I looks they owned aroudn 2,000 of them. they were all automated (no djs spinning discs or chosing records.
in two words, they suck.

------------------

Satellite radio is not the answer to good radio,
much like cable TV is not the answer to good TV.
Both just give you more choices of crap.

Radio *is* categorized, and it ought to be. Only
a slim number of people would like to hear Ja Rule,
Rusted Root, Barry Manilow and Dwight Yoakum
on the same radio station. If you are actually looking
for a station that will play Norah Jones, B-Tribe, Ned
Otter, etc., then look for your closest college radio
station. Give them a good listen. I guarantee you that
after 30 minutes of pure hell, you will switch back to
a Clear Channel Radio station, because we play
the hits.

Steve Smith
Production Director/Imaging Director, Clear Channel
steven.smith@clearchannel.com
Lebanon, NH

no! I don't have old man stink.. not yet..
here's a part of his response:

"That's great that college breaks bands. What I find not so great is the wide (sometimes no) formats of some stations. (I mentioned this to EW by the way...it was left out.) A college station can go from rap to country to folk to dance in one 15 minute sitting. Is this good radio? Personally, I don't think so...but if don't correctly, it could work. WITH GUIDENCE.

You have to repeat songs because the average listener only listens to the radio for 15 minutes at a time. So, in that time, you gotta play the new, hot song that they love!! also play some other music that they like (aka the hits.) If you don't, you may lose them to another station, and all is lost!"

I got a sign for this:
from http://www.gapingmaw.com/
http://www.gapingmaw.com/507411/sex3.gif
it's called "I'M LIKE AN OCTOPUS AT THE BONER BUFFET"
I think that describes it very well.
