powerkok said:
Now, comparing military and government to a canine is just astoundingly silly. Im not defending Israel, fuck them, fuck Hezbollah too...I just cant take all the bleeding heart bullshit. Take care of your own backyard, motherfuckers....
That's why this story is important, it has everything to do with our backyard. To moderate Muslims, at this point we seem unwilling to reign in Israel no matter what they do, and to most of their daily lives, that is a more extreme position and a bigger security threat to them than terrorists. This automatically means more sympathy, recruitment, and safe harboring of terrorists around the world. Not good news for our backyard. We could have responded to Israel's overreaching by saying they had a right to retrieve their soldiers, but firing weapons at the entire countryside of a sovereign nation with a democratically elected goverment will not be tolerated by ANYONE; we could threaten to cut off aid and unconditional support. Or at least draw a line in the sand SOMEWHERE where we would consider Israel to be "going too far". Any of those actions would yield only positive foreign policy ramifications, and no negative ones. It would undermine the key recruitment drive of the terrorist cause at no cost to us. But we'll never do that the way things are going, even to save our own backyard. And that is what pisses me off.
