ArrowHead is logged in... NOT said:
I'm hesitant to try doom, as I hated the first game back when I was in college. I know it's come a long way since, but I still find myself avoiding it. I have yet to try any of the Half life games. I was checking out HL2 at the store, but was wondering if I'd be better off starting with the first game, plot-wise.
Download the doom3 demo for free. That should give you a pretty good idea of how the rest of it is. And the original half-life games are fantastic, but I don't know how dated they're be now graphics/gameplay wise. HL2's storyline has little to do with HL1 for some ungodly reason since HL1 had an awesome storyline. I don't think you'd have a hard time jumping straight into HL2. It's like an episode of Lost where they don't fucking tell you anything. You'll play it and be confused about what's going on, but you'll be just as confused as everybody else who's played HL1.
